Year-Long UK Romance Scam Leaves Victim Devastated

Jacqueline lives in the UK and works for the NHS. She has found fulfillment in her life through her children and grandchildren, so she says that she was not looking for love. That was until a man named George reached out to her through her Linkedin profile.

It was an ordinary encounter at first, but as the conversation progressed it because obvious that George was different than any guy she had ever spoken to. He was a gem trader who bought and sold rare gems around the world. He also seemed to behave very gentlemanly towards her. He was very considerate and spent a lot of time caring for her needs.

George and Jacqueline stayed in constant communication, texting all day, and even though they lived in different time zones, George would text Jacqueline in the morning (which was late at night for him).

Everything seemed normal, even perfect until Jacqueline asked him an innocent question. “can you face time me?”. Ever since then, things began to change, And a suspicious sense of skepticism developed in Jacqueline’s mind. But she was able to quiet it for a time… She told herself that the relationship could continue, as long as she didn’t send any money.

Eventually, an emergency happened. It was George’s dog, he needed surgery to save his eye. George said that he couldn’t access any of his money, and he needed Jacqueline’s help. She was confused “this can’t mean what I think it means can it?” she thought. She asked, “are you asking me for money”. George’s response was “Yes I am.”

Jacquline was caught off guard by his shamelessness. She didn’t think that he was the type of man to ask a woman for money. And what was worse, this would be the last time George would ever bring up this situation again. He pretended as it had never happened.

It had been over a year since Jacqueline and George had started talking. They continued messaging every day and every night. But she still had her suspicions. But maybe that would all be put to rest soon. George was headed to the UK to finally meet her in person. He sent her videos of him boarding the plane and was texting her on his flight. Then suddenly, the tone of the messages changed.

George said that he was called to the front of the plane and integrated. He was unable to fly that day. Meaning Jacqueline wouldn’t get to meet him in person to quiet her doubts.

He told her that they took a shipment of his and he would need to pay a fine to get it back. The shipment contained a car and his precious gems. He would need to get the money together to pay it.

Jacqueline was hurt. She thought that once George stepped off the plane and she finally saw his face she could finally put her inner skeptic to rest. but she was not given that closure. Instead, she had more questions and even more uncertainty than ever.

George said he asked around to see if any of his friends could loan him the money, but he couldn’t get ahold of any. He told Jacqueline “My friends keep asking me why the girl I gave up everything for can’t help me.” She felt like he was putting pressure on her, and it was a cruel and unfair tactic to get what he wanted.

Jacqueline tried to do everything she could to get the package back from customs. She was in contact with the shipment company to see what she could do to get Georges’ shipment back to him. She was talking to the shipment company and George at the same time, But something was happening that Jacqueline couldn’t explain. The shipment company and George would always reach out to her at the same time. Almost as if… They were coordinating.

It was undeniable evidence. The conclusion became so clear that it couldn’t be reasoned against. George was the “shipment company”, the past year of her love life had been one big lie, George was a fraud, and their love was a scam.

Conclusion

Using a reverse image search, the social catfish team was able to confirm that “George” was really an Instagram model who had nothing to do with the scam. His images were stolen to scam unsuspecting women on the internet. The problem of romance scams is growing to epidemic proportions run a reverse image search to make sure the person you’re talking to online isn’t one of these scammers.
