They can also make a fake profile of a handsome man in order to strike up conversation and eventually ask for money and pictures, which they will use for blackmail.

They can now say that your pictures will be posted over all the accounts that they have access to, if you don’t continue to send the money.

Gift Card Scam

Money can often leave a trail. So, many scammers will use similar methods of sextortion but instead of asking for money, they will ask for gift cards instead, which makes it much more difficult to trace their fraud back to them. 

How To Avoid These Scams

It isn’t always easy to avoid being scammed but there are certain precautions that you can take, in order to keep yourself as safe as possible. 

• Don’t send people money. Especially people you’ve just begun chatting with.

• Don’t click on links unless you’re certain of their validity

• Don’t trust offers that are too good to be true. There’s a good chance that they are.
