Multiple Romance Scammers Steal $100K from Woman

Lois was married to a man for 30 years and had a daughter with him named Sarah. She decided to make a Facebook profile for the first time and started getting messages from another man named the General. She was so infatuated by the General’s words, that she ended her 30-year marriage for him. The General then scammed her, so she found another guy to talk to online, fell in love, and also got scammed by him. The cycle was continuous until she and her daughter went on the Dr. Phil show and proved to her that she was being scammed by romance scammers.

The List of Romance Scammers Lois Talked To

The General

The General swooned Lois into starting a romantic relationship with her, acting like they had things in common, and was also very charming when interacting with her. He proposed to her after only 3 days of knowing her to get a hold on their relationship.

He told her about all the gold and diamonds he had that he was keeping safe, but was willing to send it to her in exchange for money. Because of this, she sent him just small amounts of money, and then eventually she would send over more and more money.

That’s when her daughter, Sarah, knew she was being scammed and decided to show her how easy it was to form a relationship with romance scammers. She started catfishing the General, pretending to be someone older so that she could entice him into forming a relationship with her. She would compare hers and her mom’s text messages from the General and tried to show Lois that the texts he sent to both of her were exactly the same. Instead, Lois continued not to believe her daughter and continued talking to The General.

When the General gave her the valuables, it wasn’t what she expected. She was expecting gold, jewelry, silver, and her wedding ring that he promised her. Instead she exchanged nearly $10k for “white stacks of money” that “needed to be dissolved in a special solution to use.” On the show, they concluded that the money was fake and he was indeed a romance scammer.

Phil Adler

Lois then got engaged to Phil Adler after only 3 days of talking to him online. He professed his love to Lois and exclaimed to her how badly he wanted to see her in person. The only problem was that he couldn’t afford a plane ticket, so he asked if Lois could buy him one which she did.

After giving him the money to buy the plane ticket, he told Lois he missed his flight and couldn’t come see her since he couldn’t find a Bank of America to get more money to buy a plane ticket. Sarah offered to buy him a plane ticket online for him, and he aggressively told her he was too busy before hanging up on her. Lois thought Fred Adler had died in the streets because she couldn’t get a hold of him after this.

In reality, we find out on Dr. Phil that Fred Adler wasn’t really who he said he was. Instead, the photos the scammer used actually belong to a man named Mark who came on the show and confirmed his true identity to Lois. This then proved that Fred Adler was actually a scammer.

Dr. Morris

Only 12 hours after she thought Fred Adler had passed away, she met Dr. Morris on her Facebook and started chatting with him. She was engaged to him after only 3 days, and he convinced her to send him money for some things. She sent him over the money, and he stopped talking to her, proving that he was a scammer.

Paul Shaw

She then immediately moved on to Paul Shaw who proposed to her after only 3 days of talking. He claimed that he flew to Africa to claim a $2M inheritance that his Uncle left him in his will. Since arriving, the government has been giving him a hard time and won’t let Paul leave Africa. Therefore, he claims that he can’t see Lois even though he really wants to.

He tells Lois that he is in and out of hotels and can’t afford food, so Lois has been sending him money to survive. Dr. Phil sent an investigator to Nigeria to find out where Paul is and help him out. The investigator could not find a law firm at the exact address provided but went to a nearby law firm to see if the will was legit. The lawyer confirmed that the will was not real.

Dr. Phil also found the guy whose pictures were stolen by the scammer claiming to be Paul Shaw. He confirmed to Lois that he indeed was not Paul Shaw and had never had a relationship with her. This proved that she was still talking to romance scammers this whole time, and nothing had changed like she claimed.
