So special that it\u2019s surprising there isn\u2019t a high-profile New York therapy office devoted solely to the analysis and recovery from Catfish.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing you need to know about Catfish is that they aren\u2019t all alike. They are as diverse as those they deceive and victimize. Some are <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/image-search-catfish\/\">Catfishing<\/a> for pleasure. Others get caught up in the lie and then feel they\u2019re in too deep to come clean. Some are con artists and <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/outsmartthescammers\/\">scammers<\/a> who want money or to play a trick. Diverse as they are, most can usually be separated into at least one of these five categories:<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Type 1: They are in search of connection<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1103\" src=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Love_Connection_logo_17-300x132.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"308\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Love_Connection_logo_17-300x132.jpg 300w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Love_Connection_logo_17.jpg 476w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you ask a contrite, recently caught Catfish, they might claim that they didn\u2019t intend to hurt and deceive anyone. Indeed, some feel awful about their actions. Yet, Catfish of this variety often feel as if deceit is the only way they can have a deep level connection. This can happen when someone suffers from low self-esteem (based on real or imagined self-criticism or judgment). Once they are attached, they fear a\u00a0loss of their connection or <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/how-to-know-if-someone-is-on-dating-sites\/\">online relationship<\/a> and keep \u2018catfishing\u2019 in order to maintain this fictional status quo.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Type 2: They want to disassociate from their own life<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1102\" src=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/008a4c0fd999b38efe3dc5edacc41041.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"537\" height=\"537\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/008a4c0fd999b38efe3dc5edacc41041.jpg 236w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/008a4c0fd999b38efe3dc5edacc41041-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 537px) 100vw, 537px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Somewhat related to the first type, Type 2\u2019s may lie about or dramatize\u00a0past or current life problems. Many Catfish, when caught, talk about a <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/divorced-or-widowed\/\">family member\u2019s recent illness<\/a> or their own. Others have shame from their circumstance or have yet to embrace themselves for having a disability. While this can be heartbreaking, those they victimize with a <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/facial-recognition-search\/\">fake persona<\/a> are also traumatized once the truth comes to light.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Type 3: They get \u201coff\u201d on lying<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1105\" src=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/10-surefire-ways-spot-liar-and-tell-better-lies-yourself.1280x600-300x141.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/10-surefire-ways-spot-liar-and-tell-better-lies-yourself.1280x600-300x141.jpg 300w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/10-surefire-ways-spot-liar-and-tell-better-lies-yourself.1280x600-768x360.jpg 768w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/10-surefire-ways-spot-liar-and-tell-better-lies-yourself.1280x600-1024x480.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/10-surefire-ways-spot-liar-and-tell-better-lies-yourself.1280x600.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This type of Catfish is comparable to someone who hustles a fellow pool player in a bar. They like to win. They enjoy the art of trickery and have little regard for the feelings of the person they\u2019re deceiving. To this Catfish, possibly the more dangerous type, it\u2019s all a game. They may not even be remotely like the person they pretend to be. As with all Catfish, but more so with this type, every single detail they have given you might be a lie- even down to gender, age, or location.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Type 4: The love addict or adrenaline junky<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1104\" src=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/maxresdefault-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"667\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/maxresdefault-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/maxresdefault-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/maxresdefault-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/maxresdefault.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Adrenaline is a byproduct of <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/see-who-is-texting\/\">most texting<\/a> or email relationships. It\u2019s easy to feel a \u2018hit\u2019 of adrenaline when you get a flirty message or someone pays you special attention. It happens between lovers, friends, <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/signs-of-a-cheating-boyfriend\/\">those having affairs<\/a>, or long-distance relationships. To Catfish who are hooked on adrenaline, this \u2019cat and mouse\u2019 aspect keeps both the Catfish and Catfished engaged in the endless seduction and beckoning of one another. Even if this happens primarily from afar, one or both participants can become dependent on the relationship and the payoff it gives them.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Type 5: The Scammer<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1106\" src=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Nigerian-Scam-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"669\" height=\"444\" srcset=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Nigerian-Scam-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Nigerian-Scam.jpg 425w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 669px) 100vw, 669px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Scammers want your cash and they may act alone, with a group, or as part of a Nigerian\/ 419 scheme. <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/dating-profile-search\/\">If they are found out<\/a> before money is taken from their victim, it\u2019s often easier to get over this type of Catfish as it doesn\u2019t go on as long or get as in-depth\u2026 most of the time. <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/dating-background-check\/\">Some Scammers DO form long relationships<\/a> via messaging or email if they continue to get cash and gifts from a willing participant. If money or gifts are wired or transferred, this can be financially devastating and makes it hard to trust others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Which brings us to the saddest part for those who are Catfished, most experience a notable loss of trust after being deceived.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/catfish-the-show-mtv.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1852\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1852 aligncenter\" src=\"\/scamfish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/catfish-the-show-mtv-300x184.jpg\" alt=\"catfish-the-show-mtv\" width=\"698\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although MTV\u2019s television show, \u201cCatfish\u201d has proven that some Catfish and their victims still stay in contact once the truth comes out, even forming real relationships after the fact, most interactions end once the deceit is exposed.<\/p>\n<p>This doesn\u2019t mean that everyone you correspond with and haven\u2019t met <a href=\"https:\/\/socialcatfish.com\/scamfish\/online-personal-data\/\">isn\u2019t who they claim to be<\/a>. They might be authentic. Just do your research and verify their identity through <a href=\"http:\/\/socialcatfish.com\">Social Catfish<\/a>. Also, as always, use caution and keep money and gifts for those you know well.
