Woman Narrowly Avoids Romance Scam

Romance scams are becoming increasingly common. More and more people are having the experience of meeting someone online, falling in love, and then being scammed out of their money. Having the tools and information to spot these scams can help you stay ahead of the game.

Yvonne’s Story

Yvonne is a paralegal living in Dallas Texas. She was in a bad marriage with an alcoholic for many years. One day she got the courage to leave, but then she was alone for over 10 years.

She decided to work on herself. She exercised, focused on her career, and improved her life. And one day, one of her friends talked her into joining Tinder to try to meet someone new. When she started her Tinder account, her initial response was strong. She received a lot of likes and a lot of messages, but one stood out to her above all.

Robert was a construction worker working overseas. He immediately contacted Yvonne and let her how beautiful he thought she was. The two hit it off immediately. Robert started sending her memes, youtube videos, and love letters. Robert confessed his love for Yvonne in less than two weeks. Yvonne said she loved him back. The two messaged each other every day. But when there was an explosion at Robert’s job that sent him to the hospital, Yvonne got suspicious.

An Accident Leads to Suspicion

Robert told Yvonne that the explosion on the construction site sent him to the hospital, and all of his computers were destroyed. He said he needed her to send him money to buy new ones and that he would pay her back as soon as he could. When Yvonne heard this, she knew that this was secretly his intention all along.

Although she knew it was a scammer, did this mean Robert was a scammer? Yvonne needed answers, so she did her own research. She looked over the pictures he sent her, the emails, and the love letter to find any sign that what he was telling her was a lie. To find proof.

Yvonne is rare. Because once she knew for certain that Robert was a scammer, like when she knew her husband would never change, she had the strength to walk away.
