Meri Brown Got Catfished

When Meri Brown from reality show, Sister Wives, got catfished, it showed how prevalent catfishing is on the internet. This reality show doesn’t have anything to do with catfishing and yet, it managed to rear its ugly head here. Sister Wives is a reality show on TLC that shows the life of a polygamist family that becomes monogamous in later seasons. The show focuses on Kody Brown, his four wives and their eighteen children.

What Episode Did Meri Get Catfished?

Meri got cafished in season 9 episode 12. However, Meri initially is not privy to the fact that she’s been catfished. She reveals that she’s been having an affair with a man online when the Browns are vacationing in Alaska for some dog sledding and deep sea fishing activities.

Meri’s Catfished Messages

Unfortunately, this is typically where things go down a dark path. Catfishing incidents are known for getting confidential information or private photos of the victim. Once this is obtained by the catfisher, anything can happen.

They can release it to their friends or to strangers over the internet. From there, it continues to spread and spread and spread. This is especially true when dealing with people that have fame and are celebrities. In Meri’s case, she wasn’t the exception.

Private messages were exposed to the public by the catfish saying, “The first time we had sex was March 6, 2015”. He also wrote, “The next day we did a Disney trip. Here are the texts from that day that prove we had been intimate the night before.”

However, the messages never showed the physical act. It just showed Meri fantasizing about having an intimate encounter, but not actually having one.

Who Was Catfishing Meri?

The person catfishing Meri was “Sam Cooper”, an International business tycoon. He claimed to own 6 businesses and was in his early 40s.

Who was he really?

The person responsible for catfishing Meri was a woman named Jackie Overton.

Who Is Jackie Overton?

Jackie Overton is a middle aged woman responsible for catfishing Meri Brown from Sister Wives. In addition to releasing several images and voice messages when Meri called off the relationship, she also wound up writing two books that chronicled their six month relationship.

The books were titled “Almost Meri’ed” and “Almost Defame’ed”. Both books are available on Amazon published under the name Sam Cooper. Jackie Overton is a serial catfisher and several more victims of her criminal behavior have come forward with their own stories of being fooled by her.

She is still active on twitter, going by the name @notbatmanyet. She had 130k followers and frequently shares her views with her audience and asks for donations to help the needy. It’s unknown whether she is successful in raising money or if she actually does help the needy.

Why Does Kody Not Want To Be With Meri?

Catfishing has been known to wreck many relationships. For Meri, she essentially had an affair with a person she hadn’t me through sexting.

Meri had sent images to Sam of his name written on her leg as she took a bath and her performing felatio on a banana. Though the two had never had any physical interaction, they intent to want to be with each other was there.

The bond and trust that Meri had with Kody was broken. From his perspective, she wanted to leave him for the stranger online, so it makes sense that he wouldn’t want to be with Meri anymore.

It’s like giving a gift to someone; it’s not the gift itself, but the thought that counts. In this scenario, the thought of Meri having romantic feelings for Sam was enough for Kody to call it quits with Meri.

Is Meri Brown In a Relationship in 2022?

As of 2022, the two are non longer legally married to each other. They divorced, but are together “spiritually”. A season 16 photo from earlier this year showed her with Kody celebrating their non-anniversary as she said to cameras, ’cause we’re not a couple, but we’re in a family.”

Meri stays in the family despite not having a physical relationship with Kody to this day. She gets asked about it frequently. “This is my family, like I don’t understand people who think, ‘Well just because you don’t have this relationship with Kody, why don’t you just leave?’ Because I don’t want to,” Meri said. “It doesn’t make sense to me when people ask me that all the time.”
