Michelle was scammed out of thousands of dollars over the course of a couple of years. Her life seemed to be spiraling. Her mother died, and soon after, her daughter died too. This left her in a vulnerable state. Then one day, she was contacted by a man on Facebook who said that he was looking for friends, and he thought Michelle was beautiful. This is when all of the problems started.
Tristan told her that he needed money, and all of his family died, and she was the only one who can help her. so every week, she would send him money, and when that wasn’t enough, he asked for outrageous favors like her social security number and more. Michelle has health problems, one of the major problems is she lives with HIV. Tristan still accepted her for it, and so she felt she couldn’t abandon him in his time of need.
Tristan started asking for even more favors. He claimed that his friends were sending him money, but he couldn’t receive it, so he asked if he could send her the money instead, and have her wire it for her. He asked her to open up bank accounts for him in her name. She soon had her Cashapp account shut down, along with her bank accounts.
Michelle’s landlord began to get suspicious about the person Michelle was spending so much time talking to, and when she started asking her friends to go to bitcoin ATMs for her, she knew something wasn’t right.
