The United States political system consists of three branches of government. The executive branch is headed by the president of the United States, the senate and house of representatives head the legislative branch, and the judicial branch is headed by the Supreme Court and lower federal courts. A lot of these popular United States politicians are at least part of one of the three branches.

How Many Politicians Are in the United States Political System?

There are many popular United States politicians in the United States political system. There is 1 president, 100 members of the senate, 435 members of the house of representatives, 9 Supreme Court justices, and many lower federal court judges.

Different Parties of the United States Political System

Within the political system, there are two main political parties that create the types of politicians in the United States. These political parties are the republican party and the democratic party. In this article, we will be focusing on 5 of the most popular republican and 5 of the most popular Democratic presidential candidates.

Interesting Political Stats

In 2018, politicians spent close to 1.8 billion dollars on digital advertising, which made it one of the fastest-growing advertising mediums in the country. At first, Donald Trump had spent the most money on Facebook ads during the 2020 presidential election with $40.87 million spent on Facebook advertising. However, he was surpassed by then-Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg.

Fun Facts About the Political System

The electoral college is what decides who gets elected president, as voters cast their votes to the electors. The electors of the electoral college then count the votes and determine which candidate a state should vote for. Each state gets a number of votes based on their population size that goes to the candidate most people in the state voted for.

The History of the American Political System

The American political system started after the United States won the American Revolution and became independent from Great Britain. The first president, George Washington, was elected after the war. Then in 1787 during the ratification of the constitution, the two-party system emerged. The federalists wanted a strong central government while the anti-federalists wanted the power to go to the states. Finally, in the first-ever election of 1796, the first-ever state politicians were elected by the people into office.

How We Chose the Most Popular United States Politicians

As the author, I chose five of the most popular Republican politicians and five of the most popular democratic politicians. I thought it was important to represent both parties within one article to represent everyone’s beliefs. I looked through many sources and chose the candidates that were most talked about within the two parties, and then compiled a list of the most popular United States politicians.

How to Become One of the Most Popular United States Politicians

Anyone can get into the American political industry if you put your mind to it. Many of the people mentioned in this article went to law school and slowly got more involved with what they believed in. They joined groups within their cities, ran for mayor or governor, and eventually some even made it to the House of Representatives, Senate, and there are those few that even became president! They started off small but dreamed big, which is what got them to where they are today and what made them the most popular United States politicians.

Bush created the United States Department of Homeland Security and went to war with Afghanistan shortly after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
